AI Impact Assessment (AIIA)

The AI Impact Assessment is the DTA's mandated assurance artefact under v2.0 of the AI Policy. It walks an agency through risk identification, mitigation and accountability before an AI system is deployed.
Key obligations
- Complete an AIIA before deploying any new or materially changed AI system.
- Cover purpose, data, model behaviour, risks (bias, safety, security, privacy), mitigations and monitoring.
- Engage the Accountable Official for sign-off.
- Retain the AIIA as evidence — expect it to be referenced in audits and tenders.

- All non-corporate Commonwealth entities deploying AI.
- Vendors selling AI capability to Commonwealth — expect to provide inputs to a customer's AIIA.
